                    ACRONYMS (Reference)
Over the years the study of mechanics has gotten more and more technical and the need for acronyms to shorten the tongue twisting names of devices and concepts becomes necessary. After the USA created an agency called the EPA it become necessary to establish emission standards and those standards are there to keep car manufacturers and dealers from totally controlling the ability of independant repair shops to work on these cars an agreement called OBD2 created standard equipment including the datalink connectors, hardware, and then standard terminology for the cars devices. These became the official terms required by law. Break the emission rules and you might find the FBI giving you a call.
