Volkswagen recalls

These are "recalls", that is, design defects, that the dealership will repair (usually for free). Free is always good, but what it is more important is that your car may have a defect that could be a real safety issue for whoever is driving the car.
Lenny's Volkswagen is an independent shop and not a dealership and does not do these repairs for free. The only way to find out for sure whether you are eligible is to call the service department at a VW dealership and give them your VIN (VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER).
Below is a very short list of some of the "recalls".  Remember you can always call the dealership service dept. anytime and give them your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and they are supposed to tell you what service they will do for free. But if you call another dealership you might get a completely different story. In short, the dealers don't want to do warrantee work. They will fight you, and you may need to be assertive.

New Beetles, Jettas and Golfs with defective Window Regulators. I am not sure yet if there is a recall but there has been a very high rate of failure and some dealerships have offered to make repairs for free. There is some plastic piece that is part of the window regulator that keeps breaking. My newest information tells me that all the late1999 and up cars are experiencing this problem also. In other words that should include the new Jetta 4s and Golf 4s. and the Beatle  * * *

Cabriolet 1987-90: Fuel tank crack causing leaking fuel.

Golf or Jetta: Heater core leaking can scald your leg and /or overheat your engine.

Some 1987-93 Foxes: Failure of the heat exchanger under the dashboard could overheat causing it's pressure to rise to a level where a leak in the pressure circuit could occur. A leak or failure of the heat exchanger underneath the dashboard on the passenger side could allow hot coolant to escape and cause injury to the legs of the passenger not to mention the auto accident that might occur if you were driving and then suddenly hit with scalding hot steam.
TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) are issued by vehicle manufacturers to help automotive technicians diagnose and repair problems reported by consumers and repair shops. It's amazing how many fixes are found in these bulletins that can't be found anywhere else. Thousands of bulletins are issued by car manufacturers every year.
TSBs contain up-to-date factory fixes for difficult to diagnose problems such as rough idles, intermittent stalls, hard starts, and all kinds of "shakes", "rattles" and "clunks" that can sometimes drive you nuts. TSBs describe service procedures that may improve performance, reduce future breakdowns, or show a factory authorized modification for your vehicle.

The TSB and recall titles for your make, model and year of car gives you an instant overview of the types of TSBs and Recalls on your vehicle. These descriptive titles can be used to narrow down your search within the database, or you can take this list directly to your automotive technician.

Recall Notices:
Automobile manufacturers issue Official Safety Recall Notices to inform vehicle owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Oftentimes this recall work can be performed by your car dealer for free. Knowing what recall notices have been issued on your vehicle helps you keep your vehicle in the best and safest working order.
